Three prominent politicians will be summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into a misappropriation allegation involving RM600 billion in government funds

According to New Straits Times, the MACC will call upon Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The date on which the trio will be summoned to provide their statements to aid in the investigations has yet to be determined.

This comes after the Ministry of Finance (MOF) allegedly recorded a serious protocol breach involving government funds worth RM600 billion during Muhyiddin's administration.

The funds were intended to support COVID-19 aid programmes as well as for vaccines.

For context, Zafrul was the finance minister during the Muhyiddin administration and continued in the same role in Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's government. Meanwhile, Khairy was the science and technology minister under Muhyiddin and was later appointed by Ismail as health minister in August last year.

MOF officials recently brought the issue to the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister

During his first Cabinet meeting held on Monday, 5 December, Anwar addressed the issue and said that he has handed the matter over to the appropriate authorities.
