Two airlines are offering discounted airfare during the 15th General Election (GE15) period to help voters travel back to their respective voting states

Malaysia Airlines and its subsidiary Firefly said that they are increasing flight capacity on a number of routes to meet the high demand during the election period.

Under its 'Jom Balik Mengundi' campaign, Malaysia Airlines will offer a 20% discount on fares for travel between 11 November and 27 November.

The discount applies to all categories, including Lite, Basic, and Flex for Business Class and Basic, and Flex for Economy Class.

GE15 will be held on 19 November with early voting on 15 November.

Firefly, on the other hand, will provide discounts between 10% and 24% for jet and ATR-operated flights.

The promotion is valid for travel from 1 November to 30 June of the following year and is only valid if you book your tickets by 24 October.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) will keep an eye on airfare costs to make sure airlines don't raise prices excessively during GE15

According to Malaysia Now, caretaker Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said MAVCOM would take action if airlines were found to have raised prices outside of the predetermined parameters.

"The flight ticket prices would typically rise according to the dynamic price mechanism if there was an event involving a large number of passenger movements," Siong added.

"Based on any airline's dynamic pricing mechanism, the ticket booked earlier will be cheaper than it is, and the price would be higher if it's close to the date or event," he said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, 20 October.
