Malaysians Are Not As Happy In 2019 Compared To Last Year According To Survey
For the second year in a row, Finland topped the ranking of the world's happiest countries.
According to the 2019 World Happiness Report (WHR), Malaysia is the 80th happiest country in the world

This constituted a considerable drop as it ranked 35th last year.
While Malaysia was ranked the second happiest country in Southeast Asia in the previous year, it dropped to fourth place in the latest report
Thailand and the Philippines overtook Malaysia in 2019 by placing 52nd and 69th respectively.
Meanwhile, Singapore retained the title of happiest Southeast Asian country in the world at 34th place on the list.

Finns' happiness is boosted by access to nature, safety, affordable childcare, free education, and heavily subsidised healthcare, WHR reported.

Similar to the previous year, the top 10 spots were dominated by the Nordics - with Denmark, Norway, and Iceland taking the other leading spots on the list, followed by Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, New Zealand, Canada, and Austria.
The title of unhappiest country in the world went to South Sudan, followed by Tanzania, Afghanistan, and Central African Republic.
The survey ranked 156 countries according to factors such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, social freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption

Produced by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network in partnership with the Ernesto Illy Foundation, this latest report covers the period from 2016-2018, while the 2018 report covered 2015-2017.
This year's report focused on happiness and the community - how happiness has evolved over the past dozen years, with a focus on the technologies, social norms, conflicts, and government policies that have driven those changes.
