A 23-year-old Malaysian woman broke her right leg during what was supposed to be a fun ride down a tubular slide in Terminal 4 at Changi International Airport, Singapore

According to Mothership, the woman, known as Z, suffered a fractured leg as a result of her misadventure on 4 November.

Z and her group of friends had already tried the slide once, which she described as "very fun".

However, Z also stated that the slide's turns felt "quite dangerous" due to the high speed, and mentioned that her calves frequently got stuck on the sides because of friction.

Initially, Z, who was wearing a skirt at the time, believed the friction came from her legs touching the slide. However, she later learned it came from the soles of her new running shoes.

To ensure her safety, she secured her skirt with her hands and even left her phone behind during her second go at the slide.

Z's friend was recording her as she went down the slide the second time, and in the footage, an audible thud can be heard as her right calf hit the side of the slide

Z told Mothership that she felt like "her leg and body were going in different directions" at the time.

Though she cried out for help as she reached the end of the slide, her friends only noticed her injury when they realised she could not stand on her own.

She concluded that her bone fractures were caused by the anti-slip soles of her new shoes, which caused her legs to get stuck on the slide while her body continued to move quickly down.

She arrived at the hospital an hour later, as it took time for the airport staff to attend to her.

As of 5 November, Z has spent over SGD560 (about RM1,860) on her medical bills, and that amount is predicted to increase once she returns to Malaysia for surgery

She stated on her Xiaohongshu account that her injury is quite severe, and that it will take five to seven days for the swelling to subside.

She will also need to undergo surgery, in which doctors will be affixing steel plates and tightening screws on her leg.

According to Z, she is most concerned about having to give up her exercise routine, which includes running for 8km to 9km twice a week and weight lifting.

Following the incident, she has written to Changi Airport Group (CAG) via its online feedback form and is awaiting a response.

In May 2024, another traveller got a cut on her scalp after hitting the top of the Terminal 4 slide at Changi International Airport

In response, CAG said it was not aware of the incident and advised passengers to read and follow the safety guidelines posted at the slide entrance, adding that passengers could call for help via an emergency contact number at the slide if they needed assistance.

There's actually another much taller slide in Terminal 3 of the airport:
