Malaysians Are Writing To Their State Govts To Urge Them To Ban Child Marriage
They want their states to get with the times.
The Malaysian Twitterverse is witnessing a movement where residents of several states are sending emails to their state governments that have refused to ban child marriage
The movement is being spearheaded by Twitter user Aizad Fahmy, whose tweet against child marriage went viral on Tuesday, 19 November.
"These are the states that refused to ban child marriage: Sarawak, Pahang, Terengganu, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, and Kelantan," read the tweet with an attachment of a news article.
"Get your sh*t together!"
The tweet has since garnered more than 13,000 retweets.

Aizad has asked fellow netizens to pressure their state governments by urging them to get with the times
The controversial child marriage case in 2018 involving a 41-year-old businessman marrying an 11-year-old girl.

"Guys, go and pressure your state Members of Parliament to protect our kids. Send emails, or letters to them," Aizad tweeted, urging the netizens to do the same to the Islamic Religious Department of the seven states.
"Make sure your voice is known to the seven states that disagree with this notion!"
In a follow up tweet, Aizad then shared the email ids of the seven state governments.
Following which, netizens started sharing screenshots of the lengthy emails they wrote to their state government
"I'm from Kelantan and I despise and 100% reject underage marriage," a Twitter user wrote, and attached a screenshot of her email.
She urged other Kelantanese to do their part by voicing out and showing the government how disgusting child marriage is.

Another email by a Kedah resident to their government voiced the dangers of allowing child marriage to continue.

"Allowing children to get married at a young age can trigger a bigger social problem, which is now being referred to as paedophile crime," the female netizen wrote.
"I do not want to live in a state or country that gives these criminals a chance to commit such crimes."
Residents of other states soon followed suit
Meanwhile, Sarawakians expressed their disgust over their home state for not agreeing to ban child marriage
