A man has admitted to fabricating a robbery report to avoid paying a replacement fee for his lost MyKad

The 36-year-old man, a real estate agent, had initially filed a police report claiming he was robbed at knifepoint by two men on a motorcycle in Kampung Bersatu, Puchong, losing RM70 worth of valuables.

However, police investigations revealed the robbery never occurred.

Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat stated that the man had fabricated the story.

"He was found to have made a false police report because he had lost his identity card and refused to pay the replacement fee," he said in a statement today, 12 November.

The man is now being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false police report, and Section 395/397 for falsely reporting a robbery

If convicted, the man could face up to six months in prison, a fine of RM2,000, or both.

All MyKad holders are required to make a police report if they lose their MyKad, to prevent personal information from being misused for criminal activities like theft or fraud.

Once the report is made, you'll have to pay an application fee and a processing fee to get your new MyKad.

The application fee for a replacement card is RM10, while the processing fee is RM100 for the first replacement, RM300 for the second, and RM1,000 for the third and subsequent times. If your MyKad was stolen, the processing fee is usually waived.
