Man Who Fed Baby Vape In Viral Video Has Been Arrested
The man could face a jail sentence of up to 20 years, a fine of RM50,000, or both, if convicted.
A man who made a baby "smoke" vape in a video that went viral recently was arrested yesterday, 8 August
According to a statement by Johor police, a criminal investigation unit apprehended the 23-year-old man at 12.45pm on Monday. The arrest came after a report was lodged by the victim's mother on 6 August, 2.56pm.
Johor Bahru North district police chief ACP Rupiah Abd Wahid said that the suspect is the mother's younger sister's friend. At the time of the incident, the seven-month-old baby was with her, her sister, and the suspect at a restaurant.
The suspect put a non-functioning vape device in the baby's mouth with the intention of joking, according to Rupiah
She added that the incident was recorded and uploaded to Instagram by the complainant's sister.
Consequently, the video went viral and received backlash from netizens.

Following the arrest, police will apply for remand from the Johor Bahru court today, 9 August, for further investigation
The statement also noted that the case will be investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
If found guilty, the suspect, who is also a businessman, could be sentenced to jail for up to 20 years, a fine of RM50,000, or both.
"The public is advised to not spread misinformation or make irresponsible claims on social media to avoid nuisance," said Rupiah.
