MBSA Employee Claims Surgeon's Negligence Cost Him Both His Legs
He has since filed a RM55 million lawsuit against a private hospital.
A Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) employee has claimed that a surgeon's negligence led to him losing both his legs five years ago
The MBSA employee, Isman Ibrahim, 41, said that a visit to a private hospital for appendicitis turned into a nightmare due to the surgeon's alleged negligence.
According to him, the surgery caused gangrene in both his legs.
"The hospital then transferred me to another private hospital. Further examinations resulted in my legs having to be amputated to save my life," Harian Metro quoted the assistant engineer as saying.
His ordeal was further compounded by his wife's pregnancy with their fourth child.
"I had to hide my fate from my other three children before they cried seeing my condition," he said.
Both his legs were amputated up to the thigh level
He had also required vascular bypass surgery.
The MBSA employee stated that he has been experiencing severe nerve pain since the surgery.
"I have not had a good night's sleep since five years ago. Every second day starting at 2am, I experience pain and certain parts of my body are disturbed and I have to rely entirely on medication," he said.
Isman is now a wheelchair user after an alleged botched surgery that resulted in the loss of his legs.

He has since filed a RM55 million lawsuit against the hospital
"I am determined to bring this case to court to expose the hospital's negligence. I am sure many cases are being silenced and I hope those in similar situations will come forward," he said.
According to Isman's lawyer, Firhat Muhd Fikri Isman, while they initially filed a lawsuit for RM55 million, they plan to refile the lawsuit to ensure Isman's welfare is guaranteed.
"We want [Isman] to live a normal life. The refiling of the lawsuit will be done within a month," he said.
