In a weather update, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) warned that the continuous heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and choppy seas will persist, with the peak weather condition anticipated to be on Friday morning, 20 September.

According to the New Straits Times, the weather agency said strong winds are expected to cause waves up to 5.8m tall in certain parts of the coastal areas.

It warned that the concentration of wind in the north of the Peninsula and west of Sabah will be producing rough waters in the South China Sea and North Malacca Strait until Saturday.

Photos and videos of huge waves and high tides in the northern states and islands, especially Penang, Langkawi, and Pulau Pangkor, are circulating on social media

Videos captured unusually large waves and strong winds causing trees to fall and damaging coastal structures and businesses.

A weather update video said a few countries in the region, including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, are currently experiencing the effects of three neighbouring tropical storms, namely Bebinca, Gener, and Pulasan.

It said the northern states and islands in Malaysia will be subjected to extreme weather conditions as a result of the these three tropical storms, which are currently traveling fast.

Over the last few days, it was reported that typhoon Bebinca hit Shanghai at wind speeds of up to 151km/h, Pulasan in East China at 110km/h, and cyclone Gener in the Philippines at 35km/h.
