MOTAC To Hold Special Meeting About Hotel Check-In Times After Social Media Uproar

The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) will hold a special meeting to address concerns that were brought up on social media regarding hotel check-in and check-out times

According to the New Straits Times, Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said there is a need for a comprehensive discussion with hospitality industry operators to find a fair solution that would not burden customers.

"I have instructed my ministry to urgently arrange this meeting with all relevant parties, particularly hotel operators, as soon as I return to Malaysia," said the minister, who is currently representing the country at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation conference.

Tiong affirmed his commitment to ensuring that hotel practices and policies align with consumer interests, while maintaining a sustainable and competitive hospitality sector

"The ministry will take immediate and effective action to resolve this issue.

"We will consider the views and suggestions of all stakeholders in our decision-making process to keep Malaysia's hotel industry competitive and customer-friendly," he said.

Additionally, he also encouraged the public to share further views regarding the matter via email to info@motac.gov.my.

Earlier, a social media user had called out some local hotels for implementing late check-in and early check-out times.
