Among those killed involved a 37-year-old woman and her eight children. The 10th victim was not related to the family.

The mother, Norul Naziah Buyong, and her eight children, aged between 10 months old and 17 years old, were travelling in a Proton Wira being driven by the deceased woman's husband, who suffered injuries.

The children were 10-month-old Muhammad Raid Fathi Abd Razak, three-year-old Puteri Nur Ain Syalwana Abd Razak, seven-year-old Muhammad Hidayat Hakimie Abd Razak, nine-year-old Muhamad Rolkaizat Rezky Abd Razak, 10-year-old Muhamad Aizat Syazwan Abd Razak, 12-year-old Puteri Hidayah Abd Razak, 16-year-old Razatul Aliah Abd Razak, and 17-year-old Muhamad Razarul Amin Abd Razak.

The 10th victim, Mohamad Rahimibin Rolex, aged 27, was driving the other Proton Wira.

The driver of the Perodua Axia suffered a broken leg, while a female passenger had light injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver of the trailer and two children with him were reportedly unhurt.

Prior to the accident, it was said the family's had stopped at KM8.3 near the Subang Jaya R&R as their Proton Wira's battery was dead

According to the Federal police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the other Proton Wira and the Perodua Axia then stopped at the emergency lane to help the family with their Proton Wira.

Muhamad Rahimi, the 10th victim, who was in the other Proton Wira, had helped to jump-start 50-year-old Abdul Razak's Wira at the emergency lane when the trailer rammed from behind.

"The road was slippery and it was raining heavily at the three-lane highway when the crash took place. A trailer rear-ended all three cars along the emergency lane and dragged the Proton Wira which the family was into the right side of the highway," New Straits Times quoted the police statement as saying.
