Mother Dies Trying To Save Son From Passing Train In Sabah
The mother was instantly killed, while her son's leg was severed.
A 41-year-old mother died and her 11-year-old son suffered severe injuries after being hit by a train near Kampung Petagas in Putatan, Sabah
According to The Borneo Post, both victims were struck while crossing railway tracks by a train travelling from Beaufort to Kota Kinabalu.
In the 1.55pm incident yesterday, 19 November, the mother, Lena Gabin, was believed to have just picked up her son from school. They were walking home to Kampung Muhibbah when they crossed the railway tracks.
According to witnesses, the mother attempted to save her son by pushing him out of the way before the train struck them.
Putatan fire and rescue department chief Noorsherriyana Bohari said the woman died at the scene, while her child sustained severe injuries.
The boy, who had his leg severed, has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

A relative shared how the family learned of the tragic accident
Adnan Mohd Said, 47, said the mother and son often passed in front of his house. He had last seen them that morning, before the accident occurred.
He said her family was informed of the tragedy through a WhatsApp group at around 1.30pm and rushed to the scene.
Adnan identified Lena when he arrived.
"She passes my house daily, and we found out the sad news in the afternoon," he told reporters, adding that Lena was a housewife with four children.
