Starting 10 October, Malaysians will need a MyDigital ID to log into the MyJPJ app

MyDigital ID, introduced in December last year, is a national digital identification system designed to simplify access to government services and enhance the security of online transactions.

Instead of managing multiple passwords across different platforms, it provides Malaysians with a single verification system.

According to a recent notice on the MyJPJ app, users will need the new MyDigital ID to log in and continue using its services such as viewing and renewing driving licences, fines, vehicle ownership certificates, and road tax.

However, the new requirement has sparked frustration on social media, with Malaysians voicing their concerns after learning that they need to install a separate app to register for the MyDigital ID

"The growing number of apps required for registration is overwhelming, and many citizens are becoming frustrated," said an X user, expressing defeat and asking the government to just bring back physical driving licence cards and road tax stickers.

"Why are the government institutions always inconveniencing the public with all these apps and requiring us to register for so many things? Your app is not even working properly!" decried another.

Many also expressed worry about the sudden requirement, which will take effect in just over a week after its announcement to the public, who have little knowledge of the app.

"How do you expect older people to adapt to this? Where is the campaign and help?" wrote a user on X.

"Why wasn't there proper planning for something major as this? You should have properly done the fundamentals first," said another user, who explained that the apps should have been rolled out together to encourage digitalisation, instead of confusing the public by doing it separately over time.

Meanwhile, others also complained that they are unable to sign up for an account because the MyDigital ID app just stops working

Many have urged for the app to be fixed after several failed attempts to register.
