#GE15: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim Announces He's Running For The Tambun Seat
Pakatan Harapan (PH) also launched its manifesto, which focuses on eradicating corruption in the government and helping the people suffering due to rising inflation.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is PKR president and also Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the post of Prime Minister, is running for the Tambun parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15)
Historically, Anwar was a member of parliament (MP) from Permatang Pauh in Penang for five terms between 1982 and 2015. When Anwar was jailed for corruption and sodomy, Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail served on his behalf from November 1999 to March 2008 and again from May 2015 to May 2018.
In GE14, their daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar contested and won the Permatang Pauh seat.
After Anwar received a royal pardon post-GE14, he contested and won the Port Dickson seat.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Anwar had previously hinted that he would give way in Port Dickson to other prospective candidates, including state PKR leader Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Prior to this, Anwar had expressed his intention to contest a parliamentary seat that was won by PH in GE14 to claim it back from those who were instrumental in the collapse of the PH administration
While he did not name names, the PH chairman was likely referring to Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who had run and won the Tambun seat in GE14 when his party, Bersatu, was part of the PH coalition.
He had said that the seat must have an "added advantage" for PKR and PH.
"Honestly, I have not decided on the choice of the seat to contest but I will certainly consider a seat held by a 'traitor' of PKR and PH", Anwar was quoted as saying by CNA last month.
Bersatu's Ahmad Faizal was declared a "traitor" by PH members for his role in the collapse of the Perak state government by switching sides to Perikatan Nasional (PN) in 2020.
The Opposition leader made the announcement last night, 20 October, at a PH convention in Ipoh, where the coalition launched its manifesto
The manifesto — which was launched in line with PH's GE15 slogan "Kita Boleh" (We Can) — focuses on eradicating corruption in the government and helping the people suffering due to rising inflation.
"Our slogan 'Kita Boleh' is based on the fact [that] we will do whatever it takes to help the people. We must win because we want to affect change in this country. The issues faced by the people, such as high prices of basic goods like eggs, chicken, and vegetables, are burdening the population," Anwar said in his speech.
