Syed Saddiq's team has since explained that the situation had been misunderstood.
On 13 January, a photo of Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq pumping petrol at a Petronas station was posted on his communication team's official Twitter page
"If the minister drives himself, can he claim the mileage? Going to Cameron Highlands as the Harapan Youth chief without government vehicles," read the tweet.
After thanking the politician for stopping by one of their stations, Petronas issued a gentle reminder on Twitter to avoid using mobile phones near petrol pumps
"Safety should be a priority. Do not use the phone near the petrol pump. Thank you for those who are concerned!" the tweet read.
