The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has warned that there will be no leniency towards individuals trying to sneak across state borders to balik kampung during Ramadan

According to Harian Metro, Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Zainal Abidin Kasim said police will be issuing summonses to those trying to return to their hometowns for the start of the fasting month from 13 April.

Police will be conducting more stringent checks at state borders and only those with complete documents and authorisation to travel interstate will be allowed to do so

Zainal Abidin said the police believe the highways will be busy this weekend as people also could not travel back home for the holidays last year.

"The public will try any possible means to travel interstate, so if they are caught this time, police will not give advice and will take action immediately," he said at the launch of the 'Satu Taman, Satu Polis' programme in Melaka on Monday, 5 April.

Zainal Abidin added that more roadblocks will be mounted at state borders, depending on the number of daily COVID-19 cases

So far, he said there are about 35 roadblocks at every state exit and entry point nationwide.
