Earlier today, 17 April, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court fined a local woman RM8,000 in default of four months in jail, over the controversy created due to her act of undressing on stage at the Crackhouse Comedy Club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) last year

The woman, Siti Nuramira Abdullah, was initially charged with insulting Islam during an open-mic session at the comedy club, which has since been permanently shut down and had its business licence cancelled.

Siti Nuramira, who appeared before Sessions judge N Priscilla Hemamalini, changed her plea and pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of intentionally hurting the religious feelings of others, reported New Straits Times.

She has paid the fine and left the court.

The alternative charge was framed under Section 298 of the Penal Code

The charge carries a maximum of one-year imprisonment or fine or both upon conviction.

Siti Nuramira committed the offence by announcing that she was a Muslim who had memorised 15 verses of the Quran and then took off her headscarf and baju kurung, revealing a spaghetti strap top and tight mini skirt.

She was previously charged under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity, feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion.
