The report revealed that Najib's tax bill was for the RM4 billion of income he failed to declare between 2011 and 2017.

The IRB letter was purportedly sent to the Pekan Member of Parliament (MP) just over a week ago.

Najib's RM4 billion of income apparently included the infamous RM2.6 billion 'donation' – to which he claimed was from a Saudi royal family

According to The Edge Markets, a tax expert revealed that donations are subject to income tax, even if it is proven to be stolen. Najib has therefore committed an offence for not declaring the RM2.6 billion as income.

"All incomes are taxable, whether legitimately earned or not," the tax expert told The Edge Markets.

"If the income is illegal proceeds, it is up to other agencies like the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate if a crime has been committed," the expert added.

The former Prime Minister is set to face trial on Wednesday, 3 April for his charges in relation to SRC International Sdn Bhd. Read about what caused the delay in his hearing:
