Sarawak Deputy Minister Wins Praise For Responding To Medical Emergency On MAB Flight
Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee recounted that he immediately attended to the woman, who was having an asthma attack.
Sarawak Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee came to the rescue of a woman who was having breathing difficulties on a Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) flight on Wednesday, 6 September
The politician, who is a cardiologist by training, shared on Facebook that he was on the MH2521 flight from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur when an announcement looking for a medical doctor onboard was made.
"Can any medical personnel or a doctor onboard, please identify yourself? We need urgent medical attention," he quoted the stewardess as saying.
Annuar said he came forward and asked if there was anything he could do to help.
The stewardess asked if he could present an identity card to confirm he was a medical doctor, not a PhD doctor. However, he said medical doctors do not have such a card to prove so.
"I have my credit card with the name Dr Annuar Rapaee," he suggested to her.

The stewardess then told him that there was a patient onboard the aircraft having difficulty in breathing
Annuar recounted that he immediately attended to the woman, who was having an asthma attack.
"She needed an inhaler or a nebuliser. Luckily, there was another passenger onboard with an inhaler.
"[But] after a few puffs, the patient was still gasping for air. Thank God that the plane's emergency kits are complete with a nebuliser," he wrote.
With the emergency treatment, Annuar said that the woman was able to breathe normally and arrive safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
After the whole incident, the doctor jokingly lamented that he had to fill in four copies of a medical report of the incident.
