Woman Causes Uproar By Bringing Pet Dog To A Mamak & Letting It Sit On A Chair
The owner of the restaurant said the woman apologised and promptly left after she was approached by one of the workers.
A woman recently caused an uproar when she brought her pet dog to a local mamak restaurant in Bukit Sentosa, Hulu Selangor
The restaurant owner, Tahir Salam, took to Facebook to share about the incident in a community group on 3 September.
He said that initially, another woman had entered the restaurant and placed her order. However, she was later joined by the woman who brought her pet dog to the restaurant.
The owner of the mamak said that his staff were initially unaware of the presence of the dog as its owner arrived much later than her friend
However, as soon as the workers spotted the dog in the eatery, they immediately approached the women to address the situation.
Tahir said, "The women apologised and promptly left once they were approached by one of the workers."
The Facebook post swiftly gained attention, drawing various opinions from netizens
"This is not America. One should not bring their pets to restaurants as they wish," said one Facebook user in the comments section.
Another Facebook user agreed, saying, "It's not appropriate to bring any kind of animals, not just dogs, into the restaurant."
Netizens also suggested that it is best for restaurant owners to display a 'no pets allowed' sign to avoid similar incidents in the future.
"There should be a sign prohibiting the public from bringing their pets to restaurants that are constantly busy," stated a user.
"If the owner runs a Muslim-friendly eatery, it would be prudent to display the 'no pets allowed' sign," mentioned someone else.
Following the incident, Tahir posted several images showing his workers thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the tables and chairs
In a conversation with SAYS, he added that they also carried out a process known as samak, which involves washing the items with one pail of water with sand or clay and seven pails of clean water.
Tahir also said that he has since placed 'no pets allowed' signs all over his restaurant, as well as disclosed that the patrons involved in the incident were foreigners who live in Malaysia.
"Ours is a Muslim restaurant. Customers should be sensitive and aware of the issue of bringing pets to eateries," he stated.
