"Saya Apa Pun Tak Ada" - Woman Pleads As Armed Snatch Thief Steals Her Handbag

The police successfully apprehended the suspect within eight hours of the crime.

A Malaysian woman fell victim to a snatch theft at a deserted business district at Eco Sanctuary, Telok Panglima Garang in Selangor yesterday, 19 January

A one minute and 37 seconds long closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the theft that occurred at 8am on Tuesday morning went viral on social media.

The video shows the victim alighting her car and getting approached and chased by a motorcyclist armed with a machete.

"Saya apa pun tak ada. Tolong! (I don't have anything. Help!)" she screamed but the suspect continued to snatch the woman's handbag and left her collapsed on the floor.

However, within eight hours of the crime, the police successfully apprehended the suspect

According to China Press, the victim, a 51-year-old preschool teacher, was consoled by passers-by who rushed to her aid after the motorcyclist fled the scene.

The woman lodged a police report at Telok Panglima Garang police station immediately after it occurred.

Acting Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the police found the motorcyclist with the help of tip-offs from the public

The suspect, a 25-year-old local, was arrested in Shah Alam at about 4pm yesterday.

"The police also seized various items believed to belong to the snatch theft victim following the arrest of the suspect," Arjunaidi said in a statement yesterday evening, as quoted by Bernama.

The police chief also thanked Malaysians who helped provide information to the police that led to the apprehension of the suspect.
