A Singaporean man was in tears as he had to part ways with his beloved car when its licence expired
In a TikTok video, his wife captured the emotional moment as he said goodbye and hugged his cherished Honda Civic.
"Breaks my heart to see him cry… but that's the reality of owning a car in Singapore," the man's wife wrote in the caption.
According to Singaporean news outlet MS News, the vehicle's Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which permits it to be driven in Singapore, expired on 13 October.
Her husband had purchased the car second-hand for SGD28,800 (approximately RM95,000) five years ago, but its previous owner did not extend the licence.

The video captured public attention, prompting many netizens to share their own experiences and leave encouraging comments for the couple
In another post, the wife can be seen giving him a 'farewell cake' before parting with the car.
"It was also very emotional because this is also the same car that brought us together," the wife mentioned.
Many were also surprised to learn that Singapore only allows a car to be registered for 10 years.

The Vehicle Quota System was implemented by Singapore's Land Transport Authority to control the number of vehicles on the roads in the country
According to OneMotoring, this policy permits cars to be registered for up to 10 years.
After the 10-year period ends, car owners must pay a significant fee to renew their vehicle's registration.
This system was introduced to limit the number of cars on the road and to reduce traffic congestion, while also encouraging the adoption of newer, cleaner vehicles, such as electric or hybrid models.
