On Sunday, 16 June, a man was discovered dead in the prayer area of a surau in Pekan Kuala Sungai Baru, Alor Gajah.

He was believed to have been deceased for more than three days.

According to Kosmo!, Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the body of the victim, who was in his 40s, was discovered by a market worker at around 11am.

"A witness who came to pray at the surau reported seeing the victim lying face down in the back corner but assumed he was sleeping soundly.

"The victim was only realised to be dead after a market worker smelled an unpleasant odour and found that the man had not moved for several days," said Ashari.

Ashari said the deceased's identification was discovered in his pants pocket, and it is believed that the victim lived alone and was unmarried.

"The deceased's body showed no signs of injury, and an autopsy performed at Hospital Alor Gajah revealed that he died of a heart attack.

"His next of kin have identified the body and the case has been classified as sudden death," he added.
