A Form Five student fell from the third floor of a school in Kuching, Sarawak on the first day back at school for national exam candidates yesterday, 20 January

According to Astro Awani, the incident is believed to have occurred at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Petra Jaya at around 6.30am, when the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) student was near his classroom.

When discovered by school staff, the 17-year-old from Kampung Tupong Batu was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by ambulance

The student suffered serious injuries but was in stable condition at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) forensic personnel was dispatched to the scene to conduct investigations.

The science stream student had allegedly texted a friend saying he was tired of the world a day before the incident, reported a Chinese daily

However, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail told Astro Awani, "What we understand is that the student involved came to school around 6.30am, placed his bag in the classroom, and fell from the building."

“We are still investigating the cause of his actions. There are some who say he tried to attempt suicide. But whatever the cause, he is now under treatment in SGH.”

When met at the hospital, the victim's father also said he sensed nothing amiss when dropping his son off to school that morning

According to The Borneo Post, the father said his son had asked to be dropped off at a salon after school to cut his hair.

He said they even joked about the victim having long hair because he had not gone for a haircut in a long time due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The father added that his son was also the quiet type but had not been pressured by the family to study too hard.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
