Taiwanese Woman Undergoes Surgery To Remove 300 Kidney Stones Due To Bubble Tea Addiction
According to the hospital, the woman did not like to drink water and preferred having bubble tea.
A 20-year-old Taiwanese woman had to undergo surgery to remove over 300 kidney stones due to her excessive consumption of bubble tea
According to The Straits Times, Xiao Yu was admitted to Chi Mei Medical Centre in Taiwan due to fever and severe lower back pain.
An ultrasound scan then revealed swelling and the presence of kidney stones, ranging from 5mm to 2cm in size, in her right kidney. An accompanying blood test also showed an increased white blood cell count caused by the excessive consumption of bubble tea.
It was reported that the doctors performed minimally invasive surgery to remove the kidney stones that the hospital described as "small steamed buns".
Xiao Yu's condition is reportedly stable after the surgery and she has been discharged from the hospital.

Xiao Yu preferred drinking bubble tea instead of water
Dr Lim Chye Yang, the urologist who conducted the surgery on Xiao Yu, said approximately 9.6% of individuals in Taiwan might develop kidney stones at some point in life.
He further noted that cases of kidney stones were more prevalent during spring and summer, a period marked by increased dehydration owing to the hot weather.
This dehydration leads to concentrated urine, causing minerals to crystallise and kidney stones to form.
