The four-day programme will commence tomorrow, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob expected to launch this event.

Among the activities lined up are a career carnival, cultural performance, arts appreciation night, entrepreneurship sales, traditional sports, gallery showcasing ministries' achievements, and aid programmes.

While there has been concerns regarding the spread of the Variant of Concern (VoC), Omicron, National Security Council director-general Datuk Rodzi Md Saad said that there is no reason to be alarmed

According to Rodzi, the government has prepared stringent standard operating procedures (SOP) for the upcoming AKM programme.

He also mentioned that a lackadaisical attitude among people contributed to the spread of the COVID-19 virus when they failed to adhere to the SOPs, which included wearing face masks, as well as maintaining physical distancing and good personal hygiene.

"Most important is how visitors and organisers will play their roles and be responsible for ensuring SOP compliance at the highest level. We are confident of preventing the spread of the virus if the SOPs are adhered to," he told reporters in an interview with the New Straits Times.

Nevertheless, Rodzi called on Malaysians to comply with SOPs when participating in any programme and not let their guard down

"Public awareness is there, they know what to do. However, sometimes, people tend to take [the SOPs] for granted and assume that they will not be victims of COVID-19.

"If we protect ourselves well enough, we will be able to curb the spread of COVID-19," he added.

The National Security Council is also prepared for any eventualities during the programme, including immediate intervention should a COVID-19 positive case be detected

This includes a sanitisation process by the organiser, along with health experts, police, and armed forces personnel who will be monitoring the event and taking appropriate steps if necessary.

While children aged below 12 are be allowed to attend the programme, they must be accompanied by fully vaccinated parents. Fully vaccinated children aged 13 and above are also allowed to attend.

The event will be limited to a maximum of 10,350 people at a time, about half the convention centre's capacity

Furthermore, only a limited number of visitors will be allowed to each floor at any given time. For instance, only a maximum of 2,000 visitors can enter the first floor for the Career Carnival, despite its full capacity to accommodate up to 6,000 people.

"We want to ensure the main condition for the National Recovery Plan's SOPs, that is physical distancing, is adhered," said Rodzi.

He also advised those who intend on attending to make prior planning before going for it.

"If there are too many people, please avoid the place and come again another day," he said.
