Don't Drive At These Times If You're Spending CNY In These 11 Cities

Chinese New Year is almost at our doorstep, which means that many Malaysians will soon start their journey back home for their reunion dinners and family gatherings

However, things can get a little heated up before the festive celebrations when we have to deal with the endless traffic jams as everyone makes their pilgrimage back home.
At. The. Same. Time.
To ease the journey, Waze created a handy guide of its predictions for the best and worst times to travel in 11 cities:
1. Kuala Lumpur

In Kuala Lumpur, the usual peak hour traffic applies for the Chinese New Year season. However, on most days, between the hours of 7pm to 11pm is the best time to be cruising on the roads.
2. Johor Bahru, Johor

Good luck, Johoreans! If you're meeting up with friends or travelling this CNY, set your appointments and journeys for evenings and after, as traffic is expected to be pretty bad on most days from morning to evening.
3. Batu Pahat, Johor

On most days, the worst times to travel to and around Batu Pahat would be between the hours of 3am to 5am or 6am to 8am.
Instead, choose to travel during evening and night time, between the hours of 6pm to 10pm.
4. Central Melaka, Melaka

In Central Melaka, the worst times to travel on most days are in the early hours of the morning. Traffic is much breezier when most people are having dinner, between 7pm to 10pm, on most days.
5. Kinta, Perak

Expect less heavy traffic from evening onwards in Kinta on most days and avoid travelling in the early hours of the morning.
6. Larut Matang, Perak

Perakians, take note that on Saturday, 2 February, traffic is expected to be heaviest at the following times:
- 4am to 5am,
- 8am to 9am, and
- 2pm to 3pm.
7. Kota Bahru, Kelantan

There are two time periods on Sunday, 3 February that Waze cautions against travelling: 3am to 4am and 1pm and 2pm; though on most days, the early hours of the morning are not a good time to be on the road.
8. Kuala Muda, Kedah

Generally, avoid being on the roads in Kuala Muda between the hours of 8am to 11am. The one exception is on Thursday, 7 February, where Waze advises to avoid travels between 4am to 5am.
9. Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu

On most days, traffic in Kuala Terengganu is expected to be heavy in the early mornings, with the exception of Saturday, 9 February, where the time period of 2pm to 3pm should be avoided.
10. Kuantan, Pahang

In Kuantan, avoid travelling during the time period of 2pm to 3pm on Sunday, 3 February, as traffic is expected to be heavier at that time compared to most of the other days. 9pm to 10pm is the best time to travel on most days.
11. Kuching, Sarawak

Sarawakians sure are a happy, festive bunch! In Kuching, traffic will be heaviest on Friday, 8 February, at three time slots: 2am to 3am, 5am to 6am, and 1pm to 2pm. On most days, traffic should be pretty smooth around 6pm to 10pm.
