Emergency Lanes At 2 Stretches Of North-South Expressway Will Be Open To Ease CNY Traffic
All Touch 'N Go reload lanes will be closed from 31 January to 11 February.
To ease the expected dreadful traffic this Chinese New Year, PLUS will be opening up the emergency lanes for two sections on the North-South Expressway
New Straits Times quoted Plus Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) managing director Datuk Azman Ismail as saying that, "[Police] gave us the green light to do so as this will ease traffic as well as reduce road accidents."
The two highway stretches will be from:
1. Slim River to Sungkai (north), which will open from 1 to 4 February and
2. Simpang Pulai to Gopeng (south), which will open from 9 to 10 February.
5,000 highway personnel and authorities will be stationed at both locations to assist road users
"Policemen, PLUS patrol team, emergency response team, and tow trucks will be on standby," said Azman, New Straits Times reported.
In addition, signboards will be provided to indicate that people can drive on the emergency lanes.
He also advised those travelling on the North-South Expressway to Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, and Johor to leave before 10am between 31 January and 10 February, and after 10am for those heading to other states.
Additionally, be sure to have enough cash in your Touch 'N Go cards as all reload lanes will be closed for smoother traffic during the festive season
Azman informed that toll discounts for Chinese New Year will be announced soon.
Touch 'N Go reload lanes will be closed from 31 January to 11 February, and all roadworks will be put on hold from 1 to 10 February.
