Highway operator PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) expects daily traffic to reach up to 2.2 million vehicles across its highways during peak travel days
The heavy surge in traffic coincides with National Day celebrations and school holidays, covering 28 to 31 August and 4 to 7 September, according to Bernama.
To help manage the heavy road traffic, PLUS advises drivers to plan their trips early using the MyPLUS-TTA travel schedule on the PLUS App
Following this schedule helps spread out cars and reduces jams during peak hours. Drivers can also use the app to check live traffic updates, request emergency SOS assistance, view toll costs, and find rest areas (R&R) or EV charging points.
PLUS is stepping up preparations across all main highway routes
The firm will deploy extra staff at toll plazas and rest stops, add more PLUSronda patrols, and monitor traffic through its Traffic Monitoring Centre.
PLUS will also activate Smart Lanes at 33 selected locations to keep traffic moving smoothly through busy areas. Drivers should watch for Smart Lane signs and slow down when using these lanes. Drivers must not use emergency lanes outside active Smart Lane zones to avoid legal trouble.
PLUS is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) to handle road incidents quickly
Maintenance teams have also upgraded public facilities at rest stops, focusing on clean toilets and comfortable prayer rooms for travellers. Motorists who need help can call the PLUSLine hotline at 1800-88-0000.
