A traditional apothecary in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur was revealed to be storing wild animal body parts and illegal items after the Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITIAN) conducted a raid

PERHILITAN director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim told New Straits Times yesterday, 31 May, a raid was conducted at around 3pm with the aid of a 10-man police team.

Investigations revealed that the shop sold tiger skin, claws, and teeth to be made or turned into protective amulets and charms.

Kadir said their operation successfully disrupted the illegal sales and purchases of wildlife body parts.

They also detained a local man in his 60s who is suspected to be owner of the shop.

Kadir reported they discovered five pieces of tiger skin and fur, along with 71 suspected tiger teeth and claws.

"We also found seven elephant tusks and a cane suspected to be made from deer bones," added Kadir.

They even uncovered hundreds of porcupine thorns, deer horns, as well as plastic bags filled with anteater heads and crocodile organs.

Currently, the case is being investigated under Section 68 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 for hunting or keeping protected wildlife without a special permit.
