Woman Remanded For 4 Days After Disrespecting Mosque Congregation In Viral Video
She will be referred for psychiatric treatment.
A woman who recently disrespected the congregation at Masjid Jamek Ar-Rahman in Batu Ferringhi has been detained following a police report lodged by the mosque
Northeast police chief ACP Razlam Ab Hamid said police detained the woman, in her 60s, after she was handed over to them by family members yesterday, 18 March, reported the New Straits Times.
"We have obtained a four-day remand order against the woman. She will be referred for psychiatric treatment as she is said to be suffering from mental problems," he was quoted as saying.
The case is being probed under Section 298A of the Penal Code
The Section makes the act of insulting any religion a criminal offence.
The issue came to light earlier this week when Masjid Jamek Ar-Rahman committee chairperson Ismail Din lodged a police report to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
