A woman surrendered herself to the police in Ipoh after a video of a car hitting a food delivery rider and driving away was uploaded to social media

The video of the purported hit-and-run accident, which was widely circulated on Saturday, 9 October, shows a dark-coloured Mazda knocking over the motorcyclist at a junction on Jalan Ampang-Tambun.

The 53-second clip drew criticism from netizens as the car sped away while the rider picked himself up from the ground and watched it turn the corner.

However, a few hours after the incident, Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said a woman came forward to the Ipoh District Police Headquarters

According to Bernama, Mior said the 48-year-old driver came forward to lodge a police report and to assist in investigations.

"Preliminary investigation found that the driver of the vehicle switched lanes suddenly while driving along Jalan Ampang-Tambun at about 9am [on Saturday]," the police chief said in a statement on Sunday, 10 October.

"This caused the 34-year-old food delivery rider to fall on the road and suffer minor injuries to his elbows and knees."

Mior added that police will be investigating the incident, but the driver of the car was released after they took her statement

The case will be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
