Nunuk Nuraini - Creator Of Beloved Indomie Mi Goreng - Passes Away At 59

"Thank you, Nunuk Nuraini, your noodles are a gift to the world."

59-year-old Nunuk Nuraini, who was behind Indomie's iconic 'mi goreng' flavour, passed away on Wednesday, 27 January

News of her death was announced by Indofood — the company which owns the noodle brand.

While the reason behind her death was not clear, Indofood spokesperson Nurlita Novi Arlaida said that "Ibu Hajjah Nunuk Nuraini passed away [on Wednesday afternoon] and returned peacefully to Allah".

According to BBC, Nunuk worked as a flavour development manager at the cult favourite Indonesian brand for nearly 30 years, making Indomie almost synonymous with instant noodles in Indonesia.

Along with 'mi goreng', Nunuk also created other flavours

Her other favourites include soto, rendang, sambal matah, and chicken curry.

The 'mi goreng' flavour was first launched in 1982.

It was the first dry noodle variant inspired by the Indonesian fried noodle dish.

According to a report in Kompas, the LA Times named Indomie products as the best ramen in 2019.

Indomie fans and instant noodle lovers have since taken to social media to express their condolences while thanking Nunuk for her legacy
