The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will take place from 24 August until 5 September of this year
Following the recently-concluded 2020 Summer Olympics, the city of Tokyo will soon play host to the world's finest para-athletes competing for sport's top prize.
More than 4,400 Paralympians are scheduled to compete, an unprecedented number, marking just how much progress has been made since the inaugural 1960 event in Rome.
Since 1988, the Games have been held in the same cities and venues as the Olympics, after a landmark agreement between the International Paralympic Commiittee (IPC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will also feature a unique medal design featuring a traditional Japanese fan motif.

For this edition, Malaysia will be represented by 22 para-athletes, equalling our largest ever contingent size
The feat was first achieved during the London 2012 Paralympics, and is one more than Rio 2016.
Malaysia first medalled at the Paralympics in Seoul 1988, where we took home a solitary bronze, a whole four years before our Olympians managed the same.
In our previous outing, we made history by winning our first three gold medals at the Games alongside one bronze.
The first two gold medals were won back-to-back on an emotional Sunday.
