Eddy Bernard Wins Malaysia's First Paris Paralympics Medal & Sets New Asian Record
It is the 23-year-old Sabahan's first time competing at the Paralympics.
National para-athlete Eddy Bernard clinched a bronze medal in the men's 100m T44 (physical impairment) sprint final at the Paris 2024 Paralympics
According to the New Straits Times, the 23-year-old sprinter from Sabah crossed the finish line at 11.58 seconds in Lane 3 at the Stade de France on Sunday, 1 September.
He not only took home Malaysia's first medal at the Paris Paralympics but also set a new Asian record.
The previous Asian record of 11.75 seconds was held by Sri Lanka's Indika Gamage, who set it at the World Para Athletics Championships in Japan in May.
Eddy also improved on his personal best of 11.77 seconds, which he set while winning silver at the World Para Athletics Championships this year.

"It feels good to deliver the country's first Paralympic medal and break the Asian record in Paris," said Eddy, who is competing at the Paralympics for the first time
"I had a good start during the final and did really well to cross the finish line with a bronze," he added.
South Africa's Mpumello Mhlongo won the gold medal in 11.12 seconds, while Cuba's Yamel Luis Vives Suares took silver with 11.20 seconds.
