Lee Meng Yean, who competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, has now quit the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)

BAM confirmed that the women's doubles player has left the national team effective immediately.

The 27-year-old is the latest national team member to part ways with the association after a high-profile resignation of national no 1 shuttler Lee Zii Jia and two-time world junior champion Goh Jin Wei.

The national body thanked Lee for 14 years of service

In a statement, BAM noted that Lee was team captain of the Uber Cup 2020 team.

"The BAM wishes to express its gratitude to [Lee] for her contribution to the national team, as she leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the association," read the statement.

Taking to Facebook, she said that it is a "tough and unfortunate decision" for her but she believes she is ready to follow her own path

She assured her fans that she will continue to play despite leaving BAM.

"I [will] just play at different environments and still represent Malaysia. Thank you, everyone, for your support and encouragement throughout my career," she wrote, adding that she won't "disappear".

Meanwhile, both Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei have their issues with BAM resolved after a meeting with the Prime Minister recently:

BAM had slapped a two-year ban on both the players:
