Bezos And Musk Say We Should Make More Babies For... Financial Reasons

While that may sound bizarre, they might be on to something.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk said 'we need more humans'.

The two men are known for their businesses involving space — Bezos owns Blue Origin, the company that is pioneering accesible logistics to space, while Musk's SpaceX envisions to make life interplanetary.

When asked about his aspirations for the future of humanity in outer space, hundreds or even thousands of years from now, Bezos responded:

"I would love to see a trillion humans living in the solar system. If we had a trillion humans, we would have at any given time a thousand Mozarts and a thousand Einsteins... Our solar system would be full of life and intelligence and energy."

In essence, Bezos believes that by having a larger population, humanity will have more access to talented people and human resources.

The billionaire said the massive space stations have numerous advantages over planetary surfaces, such as the ability to simulate normal gravity when they're spinning. Through the advancement of such technology, Bezos predicts that the majority of humans would prefer to reside near Earth and treat the planet as a vacation destination, akin to visiting Yellowstone National Park.

In this vision, he anticipates the preservation of Earth's environment by relocating heavy manufacturing to space, utilising resources from the moon and the asteroid belt.

"We don’t want to be one of those single planet species, we want to be a multi-planet species," he told CNBC in an interview in 2021.

Musk also said the world is suffering from a 'underpopulation crisis' due to a significant decline in birthrates in many countries. He said that it is "the biggest danger civilisation faces by far".

It's also worth noting that Musk pointed out the same sentiment on X a couple of years earlier.

At a political festival hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, on 16 December, Musk told the attendees that it's crucial for the people to have children and continue the next generation.

"As simple as it sounds, if people do not have children, there is no new generation," he said.

Despite being on different pages of the same book, both of these icons have legitimate reasons for pushing for the growth of humankind.

Considering both of the points highlighted by the visionaries, space travel and logistics should grow in line with the burgeoning growth of mankind.
