Internet Connectivity May Soon Be Listed As A Utility Along With Water And Electricity

Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo explained that this would mean Internet connectivity will be given "the same emphasis as water and electricity," The Star reported.
"We must accept the fact that the world will progress with the help of the Internet," the Minister said at his office in Wisma Angkasapuri on 22 April

He highlighted the importance of Internet connectivity as a daily necessity which plays a vital role in various aspects of development, including the economy.
"That's why the government is taking proactive steps in ensuring Internet access is available to all Malaysians, regardless of where they are," he added.
The proposal was discussed with Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin with the suggestion that buildings in new projects, whether residential or commercial, be equipped with Internet access

"Subsequently, in the future, we will not be seeing any building without Internet connectivity... (previously people had to) meet with contractors to set fibre optic cables, which takes time and is costly. We want to overcome such problems," Deo added, according to New Straits Times.
The Minister emphasised this as one of the objectives set by his Ministry.
