Microsoft Is Doing Away With WordPad After 30 Years

WordPad, the text editor that has been part of Windows for 30 years, is retiring

Microsoft has decided to remove WordPad from its operating systems.

Users who have installed the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build will not find WordPad in their apps list, and they will not be able to reinstall it. 

Microsoft says that WordPad, which was launched in Windows 95 as a simple word processor, is no longer needed

In a blog post, the tech giant recommended users to use Word for rich text editing and Notepad for plain text editing instead.

WordPad has not received any major updates in recent years, which suggests that Microsoft was planning to phase it out.
