PSA: There's A Pink WhatsApp App Going Around Online, And It's A New Scam Tactic

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has warned the public of a new malicious application that has been circling online

Called 'Pink WhatsApp', the application falsely advertises itself as a new application from the messaging app company, and boasts better security and privacy features, a customised interface, as well as a feature to transmit larger files, as reported by cna.

In truth, downloading and opening the application on your phone may actually expose personal data you have on your phone, such as your photos, messages, contact lists, notes, and more.

The Pink WhatsApp application can also potentially bombard your device with unwanted ads and allow scammers to look into your passwords.

MCMC stressed that users should only download their mobile applications from official sources such as the App Store, Google Play, and HUAWEI App Gallery

WhatsApp has also addressed this issue by stating that they may temporarily or permanently ban a user's account if they are using unlicensed third-party apps.
