Gabe Newell, the enigmatic founder of Valve and gaming mogul, has recently acquired the Tranquility superyacht

The 91.5-metre luxury vessel, once owned by fugitive financier Jho Low and originally christened Equanimity, was a key asset in the infamous 1MDB scandal.

After being seized and auctioned off, the Tranquility was sold to Genting Group in 2019. Newell, whose net worth is estimated at USD6.89 billion (RM30.3 billion), acquired it in 2023.

According to Luxurylaunches, Newell intends to play video games uninterrupted on his luxury cruise.

Tranquility is set to undergo a major refit at Oceanco's renowned facility, where it will be transformed to ensure uninterrupted, high-speed connectivity for online gaming, even in remote locations

The overhaul will include advanced updates to its AV/IT and Navcom systems, making it ideal for seamless gaming and communications.

The refit will include more than tech upgrades. It will also add a fresh coat of paint, an extended stern for extra outdoor space, and a complete remodel of the interior for a modern, immersive experience.

Once completed, the Tranquility will be as much a high-tech gaming haven as it is a luxury yacht

Interestingly, Tranquility isn't Newell's only yacht venture.

He's also set to own Project Y722, Oceanco's third largest build, following Jeff Bezos's Koru.

With these ventures, Newell is furthering his status not just as a tech billionaire, but as an enthusiast of superyachts customised for the digital age.
