Urbanscapes Returns This October After 7 Years

After a seven-year break, one of Malaysia's longest-running creative arts festivals is making its comeback in Kuala Lumpur this October

Urbanscapes recently announced its return, teasing a new edition centred around independent Malaysian voices and creatives who "view the world differently".

"Selamat Hari Merdeka! Reflecting the spirit of our early leaders 69 years ago, we are excited to be back celebrating the independent Malaysian voices who view the world differently," the festival shared.

For now, all we know is that Urbanscapes will take place from 15 October to 1 November 2026.

More details on the programme, artistes, venues, and events are expected to be announced soon.

First launched in 2002, Urbanscapes started as a small arts festival in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together local creatives, musicians, and artistes at a time when events like this were still relatively uncommon

Over the years, it grew into a major city-wide celebration of music, art, design, film, performance and other creative projects, attracting both Malaysian and international artistes.

The festival also became known for taking over different parts of KL rather than being confined to one conventional festival ground.

Past editions have been held at places including klpac, Padang Astaka, MAEPS, and various venues around downtown KL.

Later editions turned spots such as REXKL, Medan Pasar, Kwai Chai Hong, and Sentul Depot into festival spaces.

Over the years, Urbanscapes hosted international acts including Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand, Tame Impala, and M83, alongside Malaysian favourites and emerging regional artistes

By its 2019 edition, the festival had expanded into a nine-day city-wide event featuring 80 programmes across music, theatre, public art, dance, film, food and more, drawing close to 85,000 festival-goers.

Its last edition was held in 2019, with acts including Glass Animals, The Drums, Boy Pablo, Cuco, Colde, and Sunset Rollercoaster on the lineup.

Now, seven years later, Urbanscapes is returning to KL with a new generation of Malaysian creatives in the spotlight
