If you thought Melaka was all about chicken rice balls, Jonker Walk, and heritage streets, think again

Sitting right by the waterfront, Encore Melaka is one attraction that still flies under the radar, turning the idea of a theatre into a full-on sensory experience.

It's immersive, it moves with you, and yes, your seat actually rotates!

At the heart of Encore Melaka is a 360º rotating auditorium that seats over 2,000 people

As the performance unfolds across a massive 240m-long stage, the entire audience platform slowly turns, guiding your view from scene to scene like you're being transported through time.

It's a clever setup that ensures everyone gets a front-row feel, no matter where you're seated. Combine that with multi-lifting platforms, dramatic lighting, and 3D projection mapping, and you've basically got a live performance that feels closer to a cinematic universe.

Originally opened in 2018, Encore Melaka quickly made waves as one of the most ambitious cultural attractions in the region

But like many global entertainment venues, it faced an unexpected pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, shutting its doors for four years.

Fast forward to 2024, and the theatre made its much-anticipated return. Its reopening wasn't just a restart; it marked a renewed push to position Melaka as a cultural and creative hub, bringing audiences back to experience its signature immersive performances.

Before you even step inside, the building itself sets the mood

Designed by the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, the theatre features a striking blue-and-white palette that symbolises purity and eternity.

The entrance flows through an organic canopy into a blue-toned foyer lined with porcelain tiles, while the exterior is made up of geometric arcs covered in thousands of fish-scale-like LED panels.

At night, the building lights up like a glowing sculpture by the sea, making it hard to miss if you're along the Strait of Melaka.

For something deeper and more emotional, there's '代印记 The Legacy of a Generation'.

This immersive stage production dives into the 'Second Wave of Southward Migration' between 1926 and 1937, a period marked by war, hardship, and mass migration from China to Southeast Asia.

Instead of presenting history in a textbook way, the show blends drama and dance to tell personal, human stories.

It's built around themes of struggle, resilience, and love told through powerful performances that feel intimate despite the large-scale production.
