The news of the actor-film producer, who is regarded as one of the 'Four Heavenly Kings' in Hong Kong, celebrating the festival in the country comes after he was spotted at the Jing Si Tzu-Chi Hall in Kuala Lumpur.
Dubbed the "Malaysian son-in-law", he was spotted alongside his wife and local tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan on 26 January, reported China Press.
Draped in a grey coat and blue jeans, he was seen walking with a group of individuals in Tzu-Chi uniforms.
Lau and Tan, the Berjaya Corp Berhad chairman, were also seen having a spirited conversation with the two laughing together.
Tzu-Chi is a charitable organisation committed to humanitarian causes and community services. They are known for their recycling stations and activities in the Klang Valley.
The purpose of the 61-year-old actor's presence at the venue was not reported as there was no official announcement about his visit, which has been regarded as a private function
New Straits Times reported that the actor traditionally spends time celebrating Chinese New Year with his wife's family who resides in Malaysia.
The two secretly married in 2008 after dating for 28 years. Their marriage was only revealed to the public a year later during an interview.
Together, they have a nine-year-old daughter named Hannah.
The actor is currently in a movie showing in cinemas, titled The Wandering Earth 2.
He is the co-founder of Infinitus Entertainment Group, which has co-produced several local films such as Hantu Kak Limah and J Revolusi.
In 2018, the Forget Love Potion singer even attended a celebratory party of Hantu Kak Limah for achieving record-breaking box office success, reported The Star.
