It has been a sad and sombre Christmas week for Star Wars fans.

Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the popular franchise, has died yesterday, 27 December.

The actress suffered a heart attack on a flight last Friday, 23 December. She was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles where she died four days later. She was 60.

Fisher is survived by her mother, singer/dancer/actress Debbie Reynolds, 84, daughter, Billie Lourd, 24, her brother Todd Fisher, and two half-sisters.

In the wake of her death, the Internet has graciously offered us the opportunity to look at Fisher's original Star Wars audition tape

The video, originally posted on YouTube in 2006, shows a fresh-faced Fisher auditioning as Princess Leia alongside Harrison Ford’s Hans Solo. Ford doesn't appear on camera while exchanging lines with Fisher but his voice is clearly recognisable.

Both engage in a scene where Leia describes the Rebellion’s plan to take down the Death Star, which appears halfway through the film, “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”.

Although Fisher was 19 years old in the video, her poise, confidence, and sass that she displayed was way beyond her years

'I know they'll follow us. And they'll bring the Death Star. But our only hope is to destroy it before it destroys us,' Fisher said in the video.

At the end of the video, Fisher is asked to look into the camera and say her name and does as she is told with a smile.

It's certainly difficult to look at the footage of a young Fisher emerging as a world-class star now that she is gone :(
