Coming To HBO GO: 6 Creatures To Catch In 'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore'
Premiering a little over a month ago, the third volume of the Fantastic Beasts franchise garnered great success in the box office
Reaching the Malaysian silver screen this past April, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022) picked right back up from where we left Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore in their fight against powerful dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald.
With so much buzz surrounding this movie, fans can hardly wait for the next instalment of the series.
Luckily for us, The Secrets Of Dumbledore (2022) will be debuting on HBO GO this Monday, 30 May, followed by an extra-special documentary titled Fantastic Beasts: A Natural History (2022), which sees actor and writer, Stephen Fry, explore some of the many inspirations behind the creation of these fantastic beasts.
In preparation of these releases, we've gathered six adorable fantastic beasts that'll make an appearance in The Secrets of Dumbledore!
[SPOILER ALERT]: If you're waiting for 30 May to see them on your screen, read this list at your own expense.
Often mistaken for a twig or a small sprout of a plant, the Bowtruckle is a sentient creature that possesses a high level of intelligence, though it remains one of the more timid beasts of the lot. Nonetheless, a particularly present Bowtruckle through the series, Pickett, has displayed a fair share of courage and loyalty to our main protagonist, Newt Scamander, who has taken a sharp turn against returning him home to his habitat.
A constant companion and often invaluable ally, Bowtruckles like Pickett will likely save you from dark or sticky situations. But in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022), does Pickett stick around (no pun intended) to help Newt in Grindelwald's takedown?
An adorable beast that somewhat resembles a mole and a platypus, we were first introduced to Newt's feisty and cheeky Niffler, named Teddy, in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016). With a particularly strong affinity to shiny objects, Teddy's obsession has gotten Newt into some serious trouble. In fact, the consequences of his actions were the entire premise of the first Fantastic Beasts movie.
Nonetheless, his particular craze was the source of Newt's friendships with Jacob Kowalski, Queenie Goldstein, and potential love interest in Tina Goldstein. Yet, as a result of Teddy's actions through an oscillating chain of events from the first two films, the Nifflers unpredictability sets the scene for The Secrets of Dumbledore to potentially bear plenty of surprises.
A two-legged beast akin to an amalgamation of a Dodo bird and a dragon, this short creature with a feathered tail and stubby wings doesn't look like anything fantastic. Yet, through defying the elements of gravity and morphing into an upgraded version of itself, the Wyvern displays its talents through simply inflating itself like a blowfish, then lengthening its tail exponentially to carry cumbersome objects.
Deflating its body in the process, this magnificent creature transforms yet again to resemble a pterodactyl, flying off with grace and poise. Never seen in the series before The Secrets of Dumbledore, it'll be interesting to see the role this gentle beast plays in this sequel.
4. Baby Manticores
If you have the heebie-jeebies for creatures with claws, these Manticores might get you. Though tinier when compared to their fully-grown counterparts, baby Manticores are dangerous in large numbers.
From curled tails to spine heads, their resemblance to lobsters and crabs make them more relatable to our world of muggles. But in the wizarding land where they sprout to become a carnivorous savage that can strip the flesh off human bones and devour anyone in mere seconds, it'll be interesting to see how Newt's encounter with this particular creature shapes up.
One of the most powerful magical creatures in the wizarding world, Fantastic Beasts: The Crime of Grindelwald (2018) saw Gellert gift Credence a Phoenix to prove his assertion that Credence is indeed a Dumbledore.
While those who have seen The Crime Of Grindelwald now understand the true nature of this creature as more than just a symbol of the Dumbledore family, those who've yet to jump into the movie may have more questions answered from where we last left off. This will also solve some queries relating to a particular Order that will ultimately rise to assist in a battle of epic proportions.
Reminiscent of a fawn, the Qilin may be the most complex beast we've seen in the series thus far. With a pointed snout and ridged head, this dainty creature has scales throughout its body, shining an iridescently and warm light. Though gangly and wobbly, this seemingly unsteady creature has the inherent ability to perceive a person's true character, particularly one with a pure heart.
As Grindelwald's plan to take over the magical world continues on, it will be intriguing to figure out how this hoofed beast factors into his plan, if not those of Dumbledore instead.
