The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix (GP) is taking place this weekend from 20 to 22 September

The Singapore GP is a standout event in Formula 1, held annually on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Since its debut in 2008, it has earned the distinction of being the sport's first-ever night race. Set against the backdrop of Singapore's stunning skyline and illuminated by powerful floodlights, the race creates a dramatic and unforgettable atmosphere.

Over the years, the Singapore GP has become a fan favourite, not just for the thrilling racing action but also for the entertainment and festivities that surround it. With its lively vibe and the city's buzzing nightlife, it's one of the most exciting and must-see stops on the Formula 1 calendar, drawing crowds worldwide.

To celebrate the race this weekend, Singapore is hosting The Glam Circuit Festival 2024

From 13 to 22 September, Kampong Gelam will play host to an exciting blend of festivities, featuring family-friendly activities, local music acts, and the return of the 'Glam Voices' singing competition.

SAYS was fortunate to have experienced the sights and sounds of Kampong Gelam during the Glam Circuit Festival 2024, and we were thrilled to be part of the festivities.

Here are some activities you can expect at the Glam Circuit Festival 2024:

1. Delicious food all day long to keep your stomach happy

Since the Glam Circuit Festival is held along Baghdad Street, Aliwal Street, and Sultan Gate Park, it's only natural to have a vast selection of food and beverages to satisfy even the fussiest eaters.

The festival plays host to a plethora of cuisines, ranging from Mediterranean dishes to Japanese-inspired snacks and exotic pastries.

Fancy some Mediterranean meals? Check out Arabica Kebab or Nasi Arab Habibi. Want something hot from the grill? Noi Kassim BBQ and AshesBurnnit let you indulge in flavourful charcoal burgers. Home of Seafood brings you tasty sushi and more.

Flamboyant Goons is also present, offering an array of uniquely-flavoured croissants such as the famous 'cheese pull croissant'. Another vendor worth mentioning is The Original Vadai, serving piping hot Indian vadai.

With over 80 vendors to choose from, the Glam Circuit Festival 2024 will keep visitors full and happy.

2. Dive into the thrill of motorsports with fun activities for everyone

Start your adventure at Baghdad Street Carpark with the Racing Simulator to experience the Marina Bay Street Circuit virtually. Nearby, check out the Scream Booth, where you can shout to your heart's content. The louder you scream, the more tokens you earn, which can be used to win free festival activities or dining vouchers for Cappadocia Turkish & Mediterranean Restaurant.

At Sultan Gate Road, explore the Canvas Circuitry, where families can come together to paint a life-sized cardboard race car. This unique art installation encourages community participation and symbolises the fusion of cultures through creativity and art.

Feeling nostalgic? Head to the Games Village at Aliwal Street Carpark for classic carnival fun. Enjoy games like Ring Toss, Mini Golf, and Velcro Bullseye, or try race-themed games like the Water Gun Race, where you shoot water guns to move a mini race car, and Race Car Bowling, where you knock down pins with toy race cars.

For those looking to capture memories, visit the photobooths for a fun photo keepsake. If you prefer hands-on activities, stop by Pit Stop Mechanic to build and decorate your own race car or design personalised racing gear to take home as a special souvenir.

3. Enjoy the rhythm of the night with the precinct's Kampong Gelam Music Festival

The Kampong Gelam Music Festival will showcase a variety of genres, including rock, reggae, indie-pop, Malay fusion drums, R&B, and Brazilian percussion, reflecting Singapore's vibrant music scene. Spread across two stages at Sultan Gate Park and Aliwal Street Carpark, the festival highlights homegrown talent.

Brazilian percussion band Bloco Singapura kicks off the festival with an energetic performance, followed by a lineup of local favourites like reggae pioneers BUSHMEN, longtime live music stars 53A, and R&B singer-songwriter Zalelo. Other exciting acts include Nadi Singapura, buskers Fyrdauz Macbeth and REX, and Pop Punk-Hard Rock band Curry The Basil, offering something for every music fan.
