Kak Zai Claims She Cannot Body Shame Anyone As She Has Friends Who Are Over 60kg
She also claimed that people on social media misconstrued what she said.
Zaihani Mohd Zain, known as Kak Zai in the local fashion scene, is now backtracking after being called out for her body-shaming post in which she told people over 60kg to not attend fashion shows
Kak Zai had earlier tried to defend her absolutely rude remark, claiming that she wasn't making "a random swipe at plus-sized people". According to her, she was merely expressing her feelings for being seated next to "a man who was bigger than I."
"I was just expressing what I felt during that particular show, where I was seated next to a man who was bigger than I. The man also sat with his legs wide apart, without considering the persons seated next to him. With seating arrangement at fashion shows, when one sits like that, it encroaches into the personal space of those sat next to him.
"And I wasn’t comfortable seated next to that person that evening. That's why I shared that status on my Facebook. I wasn’t taking a random swipe at plus-sized people," NST Online reported the local fashionista as saying who added that she regrets that her statement had been blown out of proportion by "irresponsible quarters."
While Kak Zai now says she is sorry, she maintains that her statement, which had an actual number attached to it, has been taken out of context and blown out of proportion by people
"If the status had offended any of her family members, friends and followers (on her social media), I ask for forgiveness from the bottom of my heart," she told Harian Metro.
She claims that it was not her intention "to body shame anyone" despite the fact that she wrote the statement herself, putting an actual number about weight.
According to her, the rude Facebook post she made was meant as a criticism of "manspreading", a word she earlier didn't know
"He was actually manspreading throughout the evening and that action had made me uncomfortable when his leg was brushing against mine during the show.
"Unfortunately, I didn’t know that it was called ‘manspreading’ and had wrongly described the situation, which led to people misconstruing my statement."
To sum up, Zaihani's apology, with all its explanations, makes it appear as if she is not really apologising for what she actually said but is forced to say sorry because people apparently failed to read what she was trying to say.
Incredulously, as if unable to see how illogical it sounds, the fashion critic also claims that how could she body shame anyone weighing over 60kg when a lot of her friends come from that category, too
