Not only has Taylor Swift skipped Malaysia for her The Eras Tour, but her latest film may not be hitting screens in Malaysia either

Last week, several reports announced that the much-anticipated Taylor Swift The Eras Tour film will not be screening in Malaysia, despite being set to show in over 100 countries on 13 October.

Malaysians will be able to watch the movie in countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, and Hong Kong, among several others. But Malaysia was apparently not on the list.

It was previously reported by Malay Mail that no local distributors picked up the film, which is why it will not be showing in local cinemas.

However, TGV Cinemas and Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) spoke to SAYS to explain that they are still pending updates

According to a TGV spokesperson, it will depend on which distributor possesses the theatrical rights to the film, adding that they will not be able to screen the movie unless a distributor has made a deal and offered it to them.

A source from Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) also told SAYS that there has been no update on Taylor Swift's film screening.

Following the announcement, Swifties in Malaysia were quick to express their disappointment

The pop star's film, directed by Sam Wrench, was recorded during the singer's first three performances in California in August

To the dismay of many Malaysians, Swift has chosen to hold six concerts in the neighbouring country of Singapore in March 2024, omitting Malaysia from the tour schedule.

So far, only two stops in Asia have been announced for her tour next year — four shows in Tokyo, then six in Singapore.
