Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings — the first Asian superhero movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — is finally released in cinemas
Simu Liu, best know for his role in Kim's Convenience, portrays the warrior Shang-Chi. The all-Asian cast also includes Tony Leung, Meng-er Zhang, Awkwafina, Fala Chen, and Malaysia-born Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Chieng.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the superhero film is packed with different disciplines of martial arts so if you're a fan of old martial movies, you're not going to want to miss this one.
We recently had the chance to speak with Simu Liu and Ronny Chieng about their roles in the movie and played a fun round of 'This or That' — to which they did great!
Watch the full video of our interview with them below:
For Simu Liu, playing Shang-Chi has been a dream come through as he had "always wanted to be a superhero and movie star"
Wei Shen: "What does it mean to you personally being in Marvel's first Asian superhero movie?"
Simu Liu: "It means so much. Honestly, it's the realisation of a childhood dream of mine. Ever since I was a kid, I always dreamt of being A) a superhero and B) a movie star."
Ronny Chieng made it a point to remind his Malaysian fans that he is very much an 'anak Malaysia' at heart and even showed us his Malaysian passport which he conveniently had on him
He brings them along to red carpet events as well. Awww.
Wei Shen: "You know what, you should just take that to the red carpet. Just show it to everyone around."
Ronny Chieng: "Yeah, I do that all the time. People think I'm crazy."
When we played the 'This or That' game, we learnt that Liu loves Shakespeare — even more than solving math equations
Wei Shen: "Studying Shakespeare or solving math equations?"
Simu Liu: I'm gonna have to go with Shakespeare. I love Shakespeare.
To thine own self be true, sir! wink
Chieng blew us away when we asked him to choose between Iron Man and Captain America
Wei Shen: "Iron Man or Captain America?"
Ronnie Chieng: "I'm going to go with Keluang Man."
He added jokingly, "Keluang Man — he needs to be the next Marvel superhero."
We had so much fun and they were so amazing and down-to-earth. You should really check them out in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Playing now in local cinemas nationwide!
